1. Overview
Machine Cinema (“Machine Cinema,” “we,” “us”) is a global community for creators exploring AI and storytelling. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit machinecinema.ai, sign up for our newsletter, contact us, or take part in our events and programs, and how we use and share that information.
By using the site you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
2. Information we collect
We collect information in three ways:
- Information you give us. When you fill out a contact, partner, or event form, or subscribe to our newsletter, you provide details like your name, email, company, role, and the content of your message. Forms that ask for budget, timing, or event preferences collect those answers too.
- Information collected automatically. We use analytics tools to understand how the site is used. This includes the pages you visit, the device and browser you use, your approximate location based on IP, and how you arrived. We also capture errors and exceptions to help us debug.
- Information from events and community spaces. If you attend a Machine Cinema event or join one of our community channels (such as our Discord server), the host of that space may collect additional information — for example, RSVPs through Luma, sign-in lists at venues, or photos and recordings taken at events. Where we collect that information ourselves, this policy applies; where a third party collects it, their policy applies.
3. How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Respond to your messages and partnership inquiries
- Send our newsletter and event announcements to subscribers
- Operate, maintain, and improve the site and our programs
- Understand which content and events resonate so we can do more of it
- Comply with legal obligations and protect against fraud or abuse
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Service providers we share information with
We use a small number of trusted third-party services to operate the site. Each of these acts as a processor on our behalf and is bound by its own privacy commitments:
- Vercel — hosting and content delivery. Receives request metadata such as IP address, user agent, and routing data.
- PostHog — product and event analytics. Receives anonymized usage events and may set cookies or local storage to maintain anonymous identifiers.
- Resend — email delivery for form submissions sent to our team.
- Substack — our newsletter platform at text.machinecinema.ai. If you subscribe, Substack handles your subscription and email delivery under its own privacy policy.
- Luma — event registration and calendar embeds. If you RSVP to an event through the embedded calendar, Luma processes your RSVP under its own privacy policy.
- Slack — internal notifications when forms are submitted, so a team member can follow up promptly.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Machine Cinema, our community, or others.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
We and our analytics provider use cookies and local storage to remember preferences, understand site usage, and improve performance. You can disable cookies in your browser settings. Doing so may affect how the site works.
6. Data retention
We keep information only as long as we need it for the purposes described above, or to comply with our legal obligations. Form submissions are retained in our email and analytics systems indefinitely unless you ask us to delete them. Anonymous analytics data may be aggregated and kept longer.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain uses. If you’re in the EU, UK, California, or another region with similar laws, those rights apply to you. To exercise any of these rights, email us at affan@fantastic.day. We will respond within the time required by law.
You can also unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time using the link in any newsletter email, or by managing your subscription preferences through Substack directly.
8. Children’s privacy
The site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.
9. International transfers
Machine Cinema operates internationally and our service providers are based in several countries, including the United States. By using the site, you understand that information you provide may be transferred, stored, and processed outside of the country where you live.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our practices change. When we do, we’ll update the “last updated” date at the top. Material changes will be flagged more prominently — in the newsletter, on the homepage, or both.
11. Contact
Questions about this policy, or about how we handle information, can go to affan@fantastic.day. We’ll do our best to get back to you within a few business days.
A note from us
We’ve tried to write this in plain English. If anything is unclear, ask us — we’ll rewrite it. This is a small team running a creative community, and we’d rather you understand the policy than be impressed by the legalese.
